HPDE Overview

The GT4 is the Cayman that Porsche finally allowed to compete with the 911. The 981 GT4 used a 3.8L flat-six from the 911, and the 718 GT4 uses the 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six. The GT4 RS takes it further with the GT3's 493 hp engine in the mid-engine Cayman chassis — many consider it the best-handling car Porsche has ever made. The mid-engine layout of the Cayman gives the GT4 an advantage over the 911 GT3 in tight, technical corners. The car rotates more naturally and requires less trail-braking technique to rotate. The GT4 RS, with its GT3-derived engine, revs to 9,000 RPM and sounds like a full race car. SRO GT4 America provides a professional racing series specifically for GT4-class cars, making the Cayman GT4 the basis for serious professional motorsport as well as enthusiast track driving.

Why People Love It

The GT4 RS is the best-handling car Porsche has ever made. The GT3 engine in the mid-engine Cayman chassis is automotive perfection. Many professional racing drivers choose the GT4 over the GT3 for personal track days.

Why People Hate It

The price. The GT4 RS costs as much as a GT3, and Porsche's allocation system makes purchasing frustrating.

Best For

Porsche enthusiasts who prioritize handling over top speed, SRO GT4 racers, and track day purists.

Not Ideal For

Budget buyers or anyone who cannot justify the Porsche tax.
