Porsche Cayman / Cayman S / Cayman GTS 981
2013-2016
HPDE Overview
The 981 Cayman is the last naturally aspirated Porsche Cayman, and many consider it the finest iteration. The chassis is stiffer than the 987, the steering is more precise (though it moved to electric assist), and the engine options are stronger. The GTS model with 340 hp is the one to get — it is the best naturally aspirated mid-engine Porsche you can buy. The 981 drives with a maturity that the 987 occasionally lacked. The chassis is composed at any speed, the brakes are strong, and the optional PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) provides a good track mode. The electric power steering is well-calibrated — not as communicative as the 987's hydraulic system, but more precise and consistent. No IMS bearing issue. No bore scoring concern. The 981 is a reliable platform that you can track with confidence.
