HPDE Overview

The F87 M2 is the spiritual successor to the E46 M3 — a compact, lightweight (by modern standards), rear-wheel-drive BMW with a straight-six turbo engine. The M2 Competition and CS use the S55 engine from the M3/M4, giving them 405-444 hp in a smaller, lighter package. The M2 CS is the ultimate expression: 444 hp, carbon fiber roof, adaptive M dampers, and a limited-slip differential. On track, the M2 feels like a small, agile weapon. The short wheelbase makes it responsive in tight sections, and the M differential manages traction effectively. The brakes (especially on Competition and CS) are well-sized for the car's weight. The DCT is faster on track, but the manual is available for purists.

Why People Love It

The M2 CS is the last great compact BMW M car. The S55 in a smaller, lighter body creates a car that feels more agile than the M3/M4 while delivering nearly the same performance. It is the modern E46 M3.

Why People Hate It

M2 CS prices have climbed into collector territory, making it a tough value proposition for track use. The crank hub issue persists from the S55. And the base M2 with the N55 feels significantly less special than the Competition/CS.

Best For

BMW M enthusiasts who want a compact track weapon, and drivers who value agility over outright speed.

Not Ideal For

Budget buyers or those who want maximum space for the money.
